Jim Carrey burst onto the comedy scene in the 1990s with his energetic, physical humor and became a two-time Golden Globe winner. Beyond his iconic career, he’s admired as a devoted family man.
Born in 1962, Carrey’s early years were tough, marked by frequent moves and financial struggles. As a shy child, he discovered his mimicry talent at eight, but family hardships intensified when his father lost his job. To help out, Jim dropped out of high school and worked janitorial and security jobs.
At 17, he started stand-up comedy in Toronto clubs, moving to Los Angeles by 19. He married Melissa Womer in 1987; six months later, their daughter Jane Erin Carrey was born.
Despite their later separation, Jim stayed a devoted father, supporting Jane’s dreams. Now 35, Jane leads The Jane Carrey Band. She married musician A. Santana in 2009, divorcing a year later.
